Rebuild existing alternator or buy a new one?
I'm getting ready to add serious led lighting. Not sure of the amp draw yet but it will exceed stock alt capacity. a local shop says they can rebuild my stock one up to any capacity i need. or should i just buy a new one with the amps i need? or maybe put in a used p71 one? which option is best?

i have a 99 MGM with stock alt right now.

Weigh out the cost of the warranty with the rebuilt one vs. the cost of new higher output.

You're going to have to see how many amps you will be drawing to make the most informed decision imho

cost aside, is one option intrinsically better than the others?

RE: Rebuild existing alternator or buy a new one?
I just installed a motorcraft reman 140 amp alternator on our local PD's 03 CV. Our cost was $224 with a 3 year warranty.
10 minute job helps aid your decision...even if you chose wrong, it's easy to make a change. Just work with a supplier who will honor a warranty easily.

on my 06 MGM I went with a Raylock Napa reman with lifetime warranty for $120 but I run stock electronics, except stereo.
