Fake Motorcraft alternator? Did I get screwed?
Yes, i cracked and went to eBay to buy my new alternator. I buy plenty of Ford/Motorcraft parts there and have not yet had an issue with genuine parts showing up.

This one, however, raises so many red flags. Let me know if I need to open a case on this seller and get my money back!

Signs:
1. Motorcraft is printed on the case, rather than cast
2. Crappy brass-like pulley rather than black
3. It says TRANSPO RIGHT ON IT!!!
4. The windings are copper color, whereas my original is creme beige
5. Each part is obviously not an exactly similar casting to my original.

Is it possible it's just a revision? I did specifically order the latest part number on the supersession chart, which is about 4 revisions after my original from 2007. The box says this one is from 2011.

Let me know what your Motorcraft 6G in your panther looks like (after 2005). Also, should I expect differences from Motorcraft and original non-labeled Ford factory parts?? Or is everything literally from the same mold and materials?

Looks like an "original" that's just been rebuilt, I've gotten both good and bad before.

It's from a different casting though. I ordered Motorcraft and this matches Discount Starter & Alternator's photos so unless somebody knows more I'm sending it back.

Ordering from eBay is a gamble sometimes, especially with expensive parts like these. My tip to you is to order from Rock Auto, anything you buy from that website is the real deal. The amount of counterfeit items found from eBay and Amazon have been increasing in recent years, which is why it’s important to get your parts from a trusted retailer. Yes, some of the expensive items cost more than other online stores from time to time, but having the peace of mind knowing you won’t get any surprises or gimmicks is invaluable.

Fake Motorcraft alternator? Did I get screwed?
^^^^^^^^what westbrook said. I buy almost all my auto parts on Rockauto now. Transpo may build that for motorcraft. As parts supercede part #'s several times, build quality goes down.

RE: Fake Motorcraft alternator? Did I get screwed?
alot of alternators new are rebuilt, used to be you could take your alternator to a rebuild shop and when you got it back it looks completely different, because it is. say someone gets a alternator replaced at a ford dealership and they require a core gets turned in, say the core being turned in is an aftermartet autozone or other parts store alternator. what ford does with that alternator is they have their own independant companies that rebuild it as a motercraft rebuilt alternator, they sandblast the case and the internal parts recoat repaint, rewind coils new brushes installed, diode trio's are tested cleaned reused or replaced coils can be tested reused or replaced. so sometimes you will get a true motercraft alternator with an aftermarket refurbished case. I bought an alternator at a local parts store for my 02, it lloks like a beast compared to what i pulled out. it is possible that what you have there is still a ford aproved and tested refurbished alternator by one of there say sublet companies that rebuild them under there specific quality control and guidlines. or some guy could have rebuillt it in his backyard. but to me it looks legit from what i have seen in my 20 yrs of replaceing alternators for different makes and models. you could take it to a parts store like autozone or advanced and they would probably bench test it for you at no charge. may be worth the peace of mind, i know sending stuff back throught he mail is a huge hassle and sometimes you get screwed in shipping costs. hope my input helps.

RE: Fake Motorcraft alternator? Did I get screwed?
Kenny nailed it. I ALWAYS request a Motorcraft part when I am replacing an alternator based on years of "cheap junk" causing me to have to warranty the job. I bought a NAPA remanned Motorcraft alternator for my 06 MGM. I was very specific with my parts guy(right next to my shop) and he opened the box. Motorcraft stamp, sold through the NAPA line(purchased from Motorcraft, boxed by NAPA).
10 minute job, lifetime warranty, $99 (I traded my old mint BETA-MAX player to them for it...dont ask)
In your case, of you want peace of mind, send it back, PRAY you get a refund, and go to ROCK AUTO.
But in my opinion, slap it on there and dont look back. in 15 minutes, you'll have your answer...especially since your old one is already off.

RE: Fake Motorcraft alternator? Did I get screwed?
I'm not putting this thing on my car. I'm afraid to even put it in the trunk to take it back, I've seen two cars burning on the side of the road this week and pulled parts off of two burned-up Town Cars today. Haha.

But seriously, I just put it back in the box and put "Return to sender-refuse" next to the label and the post office always ships it and even tracks it if it originally had tracking!

Has the internet age forgotten how to write on a label? "Return to sender" seems to surprise millenials still, like an unheard of "life hack". But then, when have millenials shown any sense?

"If" it is reman'd, then sure that's fine and all, but the box label and the original product posting specifically says "new" and the Motorcraft part number refers to a new part as well.

Who remanufactures for Motorcraft? Have there ever been any known issues?

---

Who are some original manufacturers? My alternator only has a label that says "6WIT-A" "HZ" and no casting marks or other identifying info what-so-ever.
